Leading into 2018, exceeding the 1.1 million mark has been a very exciting moment in the Ethical Eating Day movement. Started as a response to the need for more individual/community driven actions related to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13, the Ethical Eating Day movement has grown to include over 1.2 million pledges from individuals willing to commit, on January 11th, to a day of meatless meals: showing that through our own actions, we can create collective change. If we want a healthier planet, we must start from ourselves, starting from one day.
In terms of next steps, the Ethical Eating Day Movement will continue to grow and support both the Paris Agreement, and SDG13, by encouraging more individuals to take a deeper look at how their own lifestyle choices and actions are impacting the planet they live on. If we want to see transformative change by 2030, we must commit to action on an individual level. Tzu Chi will continue to host events inside, and outside the United Nations, on the topic of Ethical Eating, along with highlighting the strengths of what faith based organizations + actions can do to impact change. Tzu Chi will continue to invite member states to pledge to join the Ethical Eating Day movement, and bring more civil society networks and organizations into the movement. We look forward to another tremendous year of support and wish you a happy Ethical Eating Day!
